Every Shinkai movie is the SAME

Image
In my life, I’ve created multiple reviews or excessively discussed certain topics on internet forums when I didn’t agree with someone. And it’s the same case with this video. One guy on the Internet said that “every Shinkai movie is the same”. So as a Shinkai fan I obviously responded that they’re not and I stated a bunch of arguments against that. To prove my thesis, I rewatched all of Shinkai movies and during my journey, I started thinking that this guy was not necessarily wrong. I already knew that Shinkai is trying to tell the same story about distance over and over, and finally in Your Name, he wrote a script which is interesting, easy to watch and plot structure is in place. There aren’t many experiments and on top of that, it’s probably the best looking Shinkai movie with the best soundtrack he made until 2016. I knew that my thesis that Shinkai movies are not the same is somewhat flawed. It seems like he was trying to create Your Name, which is in my opinion his ultimate w

This post is part of 52 anime challange - I'll be recommending one anime/manga per week that I've recently watched. I won't be writing about stuff that I've watched long time ago and that I don't fully remember. Also, check out my video about Hosoda's style .   This Hosoda's movie stands in contrast to Wolf Children. This time, we’re presented with a story about a father full of flaws, who despite his own problems is able to raise a foster son and a student. Interesting and exciting cinema in terms of action, accessible to almost the whole family and people completely uninterested in Far East animation. On the other hand, the shallow characters and the poorly written story are a little annoying, but you’ll notice them only after a deeper analysis. Description (no opinion) : After the death of his mother, 9-year-old Ren is left alone because his father has no parental rights, so he has to move in with his other relatives. Unable to accept his fate, the

Wolf Children is the third film directed by Hosoda (if you don't count Digimon and One Piece). I wrote about “ The Girl Who Leapt Through Time ” recently. I’m not a fan of his second work - “Summer Wars”. Despite the fact that the setting in the form of a village and a peaceful life overlap to some extent with “Wolf Children”, it’s not (in my opinion) a good movie, hence I skipped reviewing this film. Wolf Children fixes a lot of the previous production's problems - we don't get the typical monomyth or Hosoda's distinctive style of 2-3 action packed-moments and huge climax that begins in Summer Wars and continues all the way to Belle (not counting Wolf Children, of course). Instead, we

The black ball inside announces that from now on he must kill aliens on its orders. For this purpose, he receives a special outfit that increases his physical abilities and sci-fi weapons. Along with him come new recruits who, like him, have no idea what's going on, as well as veterans who died long ago and have since been regularly summoned to battle by Gantz (as the black ball is called). Plot: In short, there are guys running around with rifles and shooting aliens. Sometimes more people die, sometimes less. Sometimes the mission succeeds, sometimes it fails. As you can guess - Gantz repeatedly calls the protagonist to battle and this theme will persi

This post is part of 52 anime challange - I'll be recommending one anime/manga per week that I've recently watched. I won't be writing about stuff that I've watched long time ago and that I don't fully remember.   Anime series presenting the workplace rarely really depict the profession and the experiences associated with it. Often, the job becomes just a setting - much like school in the case of the vast majority of series presenting high schoolers. So usually, instead of 13-17 year olds, we get 20-25 year olds. School desks and breaks are replaced by cubicles/desks and gossiping with a cup of coffee, so that ultimately we don't get a more mature story. That's why Shirobako fascinated me, because it's an anime about work, where the main focus is on work and the problems associated with it. Description: (without opinion) Over the course of 24 episodes, we follow the lives of 5 female main characters who promised each other during their school days th

Also, check out my video about Hosoda's style .  “Toki wa Kakeru Shoujo” can best be described as a "good" film. It fits perfectly into that word because it performs well in every aspect, but "outstanding" in none. It follows the usual patterns, executes them well, and at the end it leaves the viewer with a smile on his face, because it delivered a simple, enjoyable and properly executed film in every aspect. Movie for the whole family, without any experiments. Plot: The main character, Konno, gains the power of time travel. That's really the whole premise... and all the description I can think of, which was already included in the title. Therefore, I would like to talk about the course and pace of events, which are "good&q

52 anime challange - check out my recommendations!

You’ve probably seen similar challenges on the Internet. Usually it boils down to watching one new anime or reading new manga each week so by the end of the year, you’ve watched 52 different anime. You can also find that with books or whatever you imagine. What I want to do, is not watch but watch AND review anime/manga that I’ve seen. I don’t want to waste your time and I want to keep my content positive, so I’m going to write only about stuff that I recommend. Don’t pay too much attention to the score. Whether it’s 5/10 or 7/10, I’m recommending this series/movie/LN/manga, you name it. Reviews/recommendations will be published weekly but I haven't decided on a particular day and hour. I’ll be trying to keep publishing on weekends though. So without further ado, here is current list of my challenge and also my recommendations. Enjoy!
